Jack Slomovits

Raised in Los Angeles, Jack Slomovits picked up his first camera at the age of six, an Eastman Kodak "Brownie." Throughout high school and college, he won fine art, photography and filmmaking awards and a scholarship to study at Parsons (Los Angeles). By 1991 he was developing his unique photographic eye and moved to New York City to study photography at Fordham University, Lincoln Center in an independent study program. He learned the "trade" while working at a major New York film lab where he was exposed to the work of other artists in the medium.

Growing up in the 80's and maturing sexually in an age of AIDS, Jack's lust for adventure was tempered by his fear and awareness of the disease. He experimented as far as his own boundaries for safe play would allow, and became conscious both sexually and creatively of how much fantasy dictates the reality of eroticism. By merging his sexual energy as a young man and his art, the camera replaced the condom and has become his wand of control.

His work is in the permanent collection of the Leslie-Lohman Gay Art Foundation in New York. He has appeared in person on The Malignant Muse (Cable TV Program) and his work has been featured in Outsider Ink, The Gay Male Body, Male Erotic Net, Badpuppy and Suspect Thoughts.

Sean Meriwether started his artistic career by drawing detailed cartoons of his dreams to share with his friends and family. This instilled passion to communicate his ideas drove him to Manhattan to pursue a BA in English and Creative Writing at New York University. He continues to bring his life experiences into the fictional worlds he creates.

Sean is founder and head editor of Outsider Ink, an alternative ezine established in 1999. The online magazine, published quarterly, provides a platform for fiction, poetry and artwork that defies labels. Outsider Ink has been praised for its content and quality and continues to grow its circulation with each new installment. He is founder and co-editor of Velvet Mafia for dangerous queer fiction. He is also the content editor for The Gay Male Body, and online resource for and about gay men.

His short fiction has been published in Best Gay Erotica 2001. He has recently seen in print in Excess Compassion, and online in Suspect Thoughts. He is currently working on several projects including a screenplay about a young gay man growing up in a small rural town, and a collection of unflinching short stories entitled "Invisible Children."

Sean Meriwether and his partner, photographer Jack Slomovits, created "For Hire," a kinetic work of fiction, poetry and digital photography. This multitask exhibit delivered male escorts culled from display ads and the Internet and combined the unique talents of these two artists into very personal profiles of these objectified sex-workers. The work from the exhibit, which ran for two months at A Different Light Gallery, has been collected into a book which is now being circulated in the publishing world. The fiction from the show has been published in Best Gay Erotica 2001 and Suspect Thoughts.
